Early this Saturday, September 9, around 2:30 in the morning, a large landslide occurred on the Cusco – Ollantaytambo – railway line. Macchu Picchu caused a company train PeruRail is derailed. The tragic accident left one person dead and two injured.

It was learned that the man who lost his life was the head of the freight train that traveled the route from Machu Picchu to Kilometer 59 (Urubamba). Likewise, the other two crew members were injured and were evacuated to a local clinic where they receive medical attention.

“This fact deeply fills our entire company with sadness and we express our solidarity and condolences to the family of our colleague, whom we will be accompanying and assisting in these moments of pain. We inform you that we immediately activated our care protocols for these emergencies and we have been working with the relevant authorities on the corresponding processes.”says a statement from PeruRail.

On the other hand, the railway company decided to suspend all its three-way services and the bimodal service (bus + train) until noon this Saturday. Changes in the operation will be communicated after receiving information from the concessionaire.
