the triumph of non-motherhood

In recent years, motherhood in all its imperfections, beauty and complexity, It has been explored by Spanish cinema, in particular; and international, in general. And despite all those necessary points of view we were missing an angle that continued to be stigmatized and stereotyped: non-mothers. A conversation and demand increasingly spoken out loud in public and private spheres and that, thanks to mammal, now, finally, has a cinematographic reference that is not left no question or cliché left unanswered. And that, by doing so, it also seeks and finds union and does not widen that crack marked by old social norms.

Torres finds the right and balanced tone to carry a premise, that of the unexpected pregnancy, that anyone would have guided by the lightest comedy. On the contrary, thanks to the brilliant interpretation of Maria Rodriguez Soto (and those daydreams in collage), we move in real emotions, which range from laughter to worry, from crying to understanding in a matter of minutes, seconds. You can be a family without children, yes, and mammal vindicates all those families that build and enrich our lives, those of blood, the romantic ones, the friends.
