Yesterday, from the early hours of Saturday, the Theater of the Municipality of Lomas de Zamora became the epicenter of a celebration that radiated enthusiasm and nostalgia: the third edition of the Expo Comicsespecially dedicated to honoring the International Star Wars Day. In an atmosphere full of emotion and fanaticism, attendees shared their experiences and expectations about this event that promised to immerse them in George Lucas’s galactic universe.

“It’s amazing to see people coming together to celebrate something we love,” said Cami, a young cosplayer who spent weeks preparing her Princess Leia costume. The event had its special edition thanks to the fact that May 4th marks Star Wars Day internationally. Fans of the mega saga chose this precise day because there is a phonetic association between “May the Force be with you” (the key phrase of the story, which means “may the force be with you”) with the phrase “May the 4th be with you” (which, in a play on words, means “may the fourth be with you”).

Since its premiere in 1977, “Star Wars” has become an endless giant that transferred to the film saga: it has books, video games, theme parks and even hotels themed around its theme.

And the Buenos Aires municipality of Lomas de Zamora is no exception to the fever, even after almost fifty years. The cosplays, faithful recreations of the most emblematic characters from Star Wars, Marvel and DC, paraded through the halls of the theater, attracting admiring glances and causing smiles among those present. For many, embodying their favorite hero or villain was more than just characterization: it is the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the universe of their imagination.

“Seeing the boys training like true Jedi is simply incredible. It’s as if we were seeing the future of the saga in action,” said Pablo, a proud father who watched his young son Luke Skywalker participate in one of the training sessions.

The scheduled activities offered a wide range of options for visitors, from educational talks to artistic exhibitions and padawan training. The choreographed duels between Jedi and Sith were one of the most exciting moments, with spectators applauding and cheering the participants as they performed on stage.

This third edition of Expo Comics arose in response to the overwhelming success of the two previous editions, held in 2022 and 2023. The organizers expressed their confidence that this occasion would exceed previous attendance figures, highlighting the family nature of the event and its capacity to bring together several generations of fans.

“This party is for everyone, from those who saw the first films in the ’80s to the youngest who were able to enjoy the new trilogy from Disney,” added César, who attended all the Expo Comics.

The stands selling comics and merchandising were another point of attraction for attendees, who sought to take home a souvenir of a special day. Between laughter and animated conversations, fans shared recommendations and anecdotes about their favorite comics, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and complicity.

“For me, Star Wars is more than a movie: it’s a way of life,” shared Martín, an avid collector who scoured the stands looking for unique pieces to add to his collection. “Events like this are an opportunity to connect with other fans and share our passion for this saga that has transcended time and space,” he reflected as he flipped through a limited edition copy.

As the afternoon fell and the Comics Expo closed, attendees dispersed, carrying with them indelible memories and the promise of meeting again next year to once again celebrate their love for Star Wars and everything it represents. In the streets of Lomas de Zamora, the spirit of the galactic saga was still alive, fueling the dreams and aspirations of a legion of followers who will never stop believing in strength.
