The specialist‘ has grossed less than 30 million (always) dollars in its release in 4,002 theaters throughout the United States. An initial fact as disappointing as the film itself is; so much for a production that has cost more than for example ‘Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire‘ as for the grand premiere of the coveted first weekend of the month of May.

A weekend with which the film summer officially begins and during which in the last 17 years, since ‘Spider-Man 3’ in 2007, has almost always been reserved for a Marvel movie. An example is the 118 million that it raised. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3’ a year ago.

It is still early, however, to pass judgment on David Leitch’s latest film. Without going any further than the previous one, ‘Bullet Train’, ended up surpassing the 100 million barrier despite having raised only 30 in its first weekend. The problem in any case remains the same: The incompressible cost of this type of films that should not cost even half… at most.

Rivals‘ falls from first to third place, although it has already raised around the world the also excessive 55 million that they say it has cost. In its second week the film has held up somewhat better than expected and at this point it is not ruled out that it could reach 100 that’Civil War‘ will surpass over the next week. The commitment to a somewhat more commercial cinema model has so far worked out well for A24.

Tarot‘, the other big release of the week, has grossed some 6.5 million in its premiere in 3,104 theaters in the United States, in another cheap horror film -8 million- that will neither be nor will it fail to be profitable without anyone paying attention. It doesn’t matter or anyone remembers her between now and, I don’t know, next week like for example ‘Unsung Hero‘?

For his part’Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire‘is one step away from overcoming the barrier of 200 million worldwide and in this way practically equaling the records of ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’while in our country ‘Garfield: The Movie‘ has become the great (and almost the only) protagonist of the May long weekend, raising more than 3 million since its premiere on the 1st.

Last but not least, quite the contrary, highlight the more than 8 million that it has raised.Star Wars: Episode I. The Phantom Menace‘ in its re-release in 2,700 theaters throughout the United States, a figure to which another 14.5 million in the international market must be added.
