SAN DIEGO — Kyle Higashioka hit a pair of homers, including his first career grand slam, while Dylan Cease starred in seven innings as the San Diego Padres beat the Washington Nationals 8-5 on Wednesday.

San Diego swept the frictionless three-game series.

Higashioka hit a two-run homer off rookie DJ Herz (1-2) in the second inning and added his grand slam off Tanner Rainey in the eighth. With that second hit, he slammed the ball into the brick wall of the warehouse behind the left field corner, giving the Padres an 8-0 lead.

It was San Diego’s fourth grand slam of the season and second in two nights. Higashioka has hit multiple home runs for the fifth time in a row.

He accumulates eight home runs this year. He set a career-best six RBIs and had three hits.

There were no more altercations, a day after the start of a fight between Venezuelan Keibert Ruiz, Washington’s catcher, with Jurickson Profar and Dominican Manny Machado, of the Padres.

Cease (7-6) shined in seven innings, allowing just one single and striking out nine.

For the Nationals, Venezuelan Ildemaro Vargas 1-0. Mexican Joey Meneses 3-0 with one scored. Colombian Harold Ramírez 1-for-4 with an RBI.

For the Padres, Colombian Donovan Solano 3-0. The Dominican Machado went 2-for-4 with one run scored. Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario went 1 for 4 with one run scored.
