ELKINS — Elkins plated four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to outlast Fairmont Senior, 14-13, Wednesday night in Big 10 Conference play at EMS field.

The Lady Tigers, who gave new head coach Shawn Mahanes their first win at the helm, trailed 13-11 after the Lady Polar Bears scored twice in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run error.

Faith Browning hit a one-out double to start the Elkins rally and trotted home on Hailey Riffle’s single to make it 13-12.

After Emerson Haddix flied out for the second out, Morghan Cox, who had drawn a walk, scored on a passed ball and Riffle raced home on an error for the walk-off winning run.

Elkins battled back throughout the night each time Fairmont Senior opened up a comfortable lead.

Addison Carr releases a pitch during the Lady Tigers’ 14-13 win over Fairmont Senior in eight innings on Wednesday night.

The Lady Tigers were behind 5-2 but scored four times in the fifth to take the lead, and 9-6 before plating five runs at the bottom of the sixth to garner an 11-9 cushion.

Addison Carr started the uprising in the sixth with an RBI triple to plate Gabby Mahanes, and she later trotted home an error to cut the lead to 9-8.

Another Lady Polar Bear miscue and run-producing singles by Riffle and Emeron Haddix then gave Elkins an 11-9 cushion.

Haddix finished with three RBIs on the evening.

Fairmont Senior drew even in the seventh on Sadie Rundle’s RBI groundout and an error.

Rundle and Abigail Shuck led the Lady Polar Bears with three RBIs apiece, while Michaela Egidi had four hits, including a pair of doubles.

Riffle had four hits in the win and Haddix and Madison Taylor two each.

Maddie Lambert got the win in relief of Carr.

Both teams committed five errors.

The Lady Tigers remain home at 6 pm today for a Big 10 doubleheader with Robert C. Byrd.
