A tractor trailer fire has shut down a portion of Interstate 476 Friday morning between the Quakertown, Bucks County and Lehigh Valley exits, transportation officials say.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s traffic website, 511pa.com, is reporting the fire near mile marker 51 of I-476 north. Crews were dispatched shortly before 5:30 am
It’s unclear what led to flames to ignite and if anyone was injured. A Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission representing did not immediately return a request for more information Friday morning.
Traffic is backed up to at least the Quakertown interchange and appears to be moving slowly around the scene. Firefighters remain onsite working to extinguish the flames.
