Vaguito: will the trending Peruvian Hachiko movie be released in Mexico?

The friendship and fidelity of dogs towards humans is an everyday issue that, however, never ceases to move, especially when anecdotes are known that take these attitudes to the extreme.

One of these cases is that of Vaguito A dog that accompanied a fisherman from the Punta Negra beach, south of Peru, in this world, and that every day looks towards the sea waiting for his human, who died at sea.

The story, basically, is the same as that of Hachiko—and that of other anonymous dogs—, an Akita who at the beginning of the 20th century caught the attention of the inhabitants of Shibuya by waiting patiently at the train station for his owner, Professor Ueno, appeared, without understanding that he would not return because he had died from a brain accident while teaching his class. Hachiko died 10 years later, at the train station.

This event was made into a film in Japan in 1987 and in its American version in 2009, starring Richard Gere as the professor.

Like that of the Japanese dog, Vaguito’s story has also reached the big screen. Director Alex Hidalgo learned about the matter and decided to give it a shape to transmit through a script the love that a dog is capable of.

The film features the performances of Fiorella Rodríguez, Julián Legaspi and Fernando Arze, as well as a dog that now has the same name as the character he plays and that also has a dramatic story behind it, since he knew betrayal from humans, but also kindness: after being abandoned, he found food through the generosity of the residents of Lince Street, in Lima, and the support of security guards who allowed him to sleep in a guard post.

Later he was taken in by a shelter and the fame of his docile temperament reached Alex Hidalgo, who needed a dog with those characteristics to star in his film.

Vaguito: I’ll wait for you on the shore It was released on April 18 and caused great excitement among the Peruvian public. Social networks have been responsible for popularizing it throughout Latin America and it is expected to be disseminated in several countries in the region.

At the moment there is no date for its official premiere in Mexico, but given its sudden popularity, it is foreseeable that it will reach theaters in the country.

What happened to the real Vaguito?

The story of Vaguito is contemporary, and the dog that inspired the film is still alive. He has been adopted by a family, but he continues to go to Punta Negra beach every day to the date with his friend.
