Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralized 216 individuals, arrested 332 suspects and thwarted oil theft amounting to N448,557,590.

This, the military said, owes its resolute commitment to combat terrorism and insurgency, and to eradicate threats rather than succumb to them.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Director, Defense Media Operations, Edward Buba, on Friday.

Buba noted, “The military is going to continue to be very kinetic and strong against the terrorists in ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations across the country. Indeed, we will banish and defeat terrorism from the nation rather than bow to it.

“Accordingly, during the week under review, troops neutralized 216 and arrested 332 persons. Troops also arrested 24 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 161 kidnapped hostages. In the South-South, troops denied the oil theft of the estimated sum of N448,557,590.00.”

Additionally, the troops rescued 161 kidnapped hostages and seized a considerable cache of weapons, ammunition and other illegal items. In the Niger Delta region, troops dismantled illegal refining sites, destroyed equipment, and recovered stolen crude oil.

“Furthermore, troops recovered 234 assorted weapons and 5,994 assorted ammunition. The breakdown is as follows: 131 AK-47 rifles, three PKT guns, one M16 rifle, 43 locally-fabricated guns, 21 Dane guns, one 105mm gun, two automatic pump-action guns,” among others.

The military’s relentless efforts underscore its dedication to safeguarding the nation’s citizens.

“Troops are maintaining the momentum in neutralizing the terrorist leaders and commanders. Indeed, we remain focused on fighting for the basic safety and security of the citizens of this country,” Buba said.
