WT Earns Eight Personal Bests on First Day of Corky/Crofoot Shootout

LUBBOCK, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffs and Lady Buffs complete day one of the Corky/Crofoot Shootout meet with eight personal bests and two top-2 finishes. WT will continue tomorrow for day two at the Fuller Track and Field Complex at Texas Tech University.

RELAY ON TOP

The Buffs 4×400 relay finished in first with a season best 3 minutes, 12.4 seconds. The first leg was led by Aymeric Fermely with the first handoff to decathlete Allen Henderson who handed off to senior Chance Martelli to next senior Malick Diop. The No. 2 nationally ranked Buffs defeated NCAA DI competitors from Texas A&M (3:13.33), Abilene Christian and Texas A&M Commerce. Along with NCAA DII Lone Star Conference rivals Lubbock Christian (3:14.1) and Angelo State.

PERSONAL BESTS
Raquel Chavez led the personal bests with her 800-meter time of 2:11.24 which makes her the third fastest time in WT history and moves her previous best to fourth all-time. Chavez finished second out of 20 competitors.

Rounding out the other six personal bests are David Richards in the long jump (7.00m), Chance Martelli in the 400-meter (48.73), Allen Henderson in the high jump (2.02m), Amari Weatherford in the 100-meter (11.71), Mary Noble in the 100m hurdles (15.37) and Hope Gray in the hammer throw (46.19m).

COMING UP

WT will start tomorrows competition at 8:35 am with Mattys Bourse in the men’s 5,000-meter. Field events will start at 1:00 pm with both the Buffs and Lady Buffs in the discus. Tomorrow’s full schedule will be available on West Texas A&M Track and Field social media.
