SRINAGAR: The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has praised the efforts of officials, Jammu and Kashmir police and other security forces for their exemplary preparedness in the face of an imminent flood situation triggered by relentless downpours in Kashmir.
Highlighting the administration’s proactive measures, Sinha emphasized the remarkable preparedness demonstrated by the administration, working in tandem with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies.
As concerns among residents escalated due to the looming threat of floods, the UT administration swiftly mobilized to mitigate the potential risks. Chief Secretary and other officials, including District Commissioners (DCs), remained vigilant, ensuring that all necessary precautions were taken to safeguard lives and property.
Fortunately, the collective efforts yielded positive results as the threat of flooding was successfully averted on Tuesday, with water levels receding in major water bodies, including the Jhelum River.
This turn of events brought relief to the populace, who had been gripped by fear and uncertainty amidst the incessant rains. The proactive stance adopted by the administration also garnered widespread praise from the people, acknowledging the swift action taken during the challenging rainy days.
To ensure effective monitoring and response, round-the-clock functioning of Control Rooms in every district was directed by the administration.
Senior officers and field staff were deployed to facilitate the restoration of essential services and respond to any emergencies that may arise.
In a commendable display of coordination, various line departments worked in unison, formulating an efficient plan to ensure a prompt and coordinated response to any flood-like situation. District Commissioners were observed tirelessly monitoring the situation on the ground, some dedicating entire nights to overseeing firsthand operations.
In Srinagar, where the water level of the Jhelum River rose ominously, immediate attention was required. The DC stationed himself at the Zero Bridge, overseeing the situation firsthand and coordinating response efforts. Similarly, DCs across the region fulfilled their responsibilities with unwavering dedication and resolve.
As part of precautionary measures, the administration implemented a need-based evacuation plan for residents in low-lying areas vulnerable to flooding. Safe shelter centers were identified and activated to accommodate affected families, underscoring the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
Furthermore, timely advisories regarding road conditions were issued by DCs to keep the public informed about potential hazards. (KNS)
