On June 1 and 2, the San Fernando and Santa Isabel parish, in Badajoz, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the parish temple under the motto “The Parish, everyone’s home.” This weekend concluded the reflection and work of the community throughout the course, which led to the Parish Assembly in which the lines of pastoral action for the coming years have been defined.

Saturday afternoon was dedicated to the music and dance festival in which different groups participated: the folklore group from the neighborhood Home for the Elderly, the Vocalis choir, Guadiana Almena with Pedro Monty on the piano and the Ale Canalla group. During the course of the festival, the history of the parish was gratefully remembered, as had already been done graphically in the photo exhibition; and the prizes were awarded for the drawing contest organized by the Brotherhood of Cristo de la Angustia and María Santísima de la Misericordia, which is also celebrating its half century.

Sunday the 2nd was the time for the liturgical, solidarity and community celebration, with the Eucharist of San Fernando and Corpus Christi, presided over by Mr. José Rodríguez Carballo, coadjutor archbishop of Mérida-Badajoz, and the participation of Santiago Ruiz, parish priest, Antonio Maqueda, parochial vicar, Pedro Rodríguez, who was parish priest of San Fernando, Jesús Pérez, who was parochial vicar, Andrés Cruz, José Espino and D. Francis, priest from Tanzania housed in the parish, who is providing support at the University Hospital of Badajoz. Representatives of all groups and ages of the parish participated in the Eucharist and, together with Vicente and José Carlos, animators of the singing, Pedro Monty accompanied on the piano.

After the Eucharist, the flea market took place with the crafts from the Women and Family Workshop and the Fair Trade stall for the young people of the parish.

The day concluded with the community paella, in which food, joy and laughter were shared with the representation of The confusiona small theatrical piece, adaptation of a poem by Luis Chamizo, performed by the theater group of the parish’s Women and Family workshop.

All proceeds from the festival, the rake and the paella were destined for parish Cáritas.
