Last night, in Congress, the Valluno lawyer Carlos Hernán Rodríguez Becerra, with 265 votes, was elected to occupy the position of Comptroller General of the Republic, to which he will return to complete the remainder of the 2022-2026 period.
By accepting his election, he required the support of Congress, the national government, the territorial governments and the citizens, in the exercise of the work he assumes. “This Comptroller’s Office must be a bastion of institutionality,” he stressed.
He also insisted that he will exercise his position with total independence and said that it is necessary to work tirelessly to fight against all forms of corruption, without political bias.
Rodríguez Becerra considered it necessary to analyze the nominal causes of the drop in tax collection. He said that he hopes that the public spending reduction measures taken for this reason will be short-lived and recommended studying other actions such as reviewing debt management.

Monitoring and audit activities must consider these different levels so that we do not act in isolation from the review of contracting processes in the country, especially in aspects that involve the territories, which contributes to strengthening the efficiency of public spending.”

The actions of these two entities contribute to the advancement of relevant investigations and disciplinary sanctions, in addition to tax findings. “A better relationship strengthens actions against corruption in the country.”
