Forum in New York promotes collaboration between Taiwanese and US SMEs in biotechnology and technological innovation

A forum focused on promoting collaboration between small and medium-sized businesses (known as SMEs) organized by Taiwan and the United States was held in New York. The event discussed recent trends and challenges in biotechnology, healthcare and technological innovation, in addition to exploring opportunities to strengthen cooperation between both countries.

Organized by the Small and Medium Enterprises and Emerging Enterprises Administration (SMESA) of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economy (MOEA), the one-day event involved more than 80 officials and business representatives from both parties, including the United States Department of Commerce.

Paving the way for strategic collaborations

During his opening speech, James KJ Lee, director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, noted that SMEs play a fundamental role in the close and complementary economic relationship between the two nations. American companies could use Taiwan as a springboard to enter East and South Asian markets, Lee said, anticipating that the forum will foster numerous business opportunities and partnerships.

SMESA Deputy Director General Wu Chia-ying stated that Taiwan is known for its strong semiconductor and information and communication technologies, as well as its excellent clinical and medical sectors that have developed various medical applications and solutions in all fields. . Wu hopes to collaborate with the United States by establishing official dialogue and non-governmental exchanges in the future.

In response, a representative of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) praised the vibrant and long-standing business ties between the two sides. With its 68 offices and more than 1,000 resource partners across the United States, the SBA will continue to work with Taiwan to grow the bilateral relationship, the official added.
