Around 00:15 this Thursday, a train from the State Railway Company (EFE) without passengers and it was a test and one of the company’s cargo Pacific Railway SA (Fepasa) They collided head-on on a road located in the commune of San Bernardo, causing the instant death of two workers from the crew of the second machine.

According to what was detailed by the prosecutor’s office, the fatal accident would have occurred while the state company’s railway carried out speed tests with nine officials on board, while the Fepasa freight train transported more than 2,200 tons of copper under the command of two drivers.

The victims of the accident

Rescue teams confirmed the death of the two crew members of the rail transport company’s train. Between the ages of 58 and 42, none of them had the chance to avoid the impact. Unlike them, the nine officials traveling on the EFE railway were able to react before the crash and ran towards the last car to experience a more cushioned blow.

Within this group – made up of experts from China who advised the company – they are in serious condition, but not at risk of life.

The investigation

The investigation was carried out by the Western Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office, whose prosecutor Pedro Aravena announced that the incident would have occurred as a result of a lack of coordination in the central office in charge of monitoring travel.

While the The Western Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office makes its investigation effective, two EFE workers will be subjected to detention control in the commune’s Guarantee Court for quasi-crime of homicide and serious injuries. They would be the driver of the train that was involved in the accident and one of those in charge of controlling the tracks.
