The Chilean actress and singer, Silvia Infantas, died at 101 years of age. For the same reason, music and, in particular, Chilean folklore is in mourning.

The death of Infantas occurred last Wednesday afternoon, inside the Luz Judith residence in Maculas reported by La Tercera.

Silvia Infantas was born on June 14, 1923 in Santiago de Chile, but raised in Valparaíso, in a family unit totally linked to music.

At the young age of 20 he had his radio debut, with a repertoire of boleros and songs of the time.

In the 1950s, Infantas led the folklore group Los Baqueanos, with whom he made presentations throughout America.

During the following decade, she was accompanied by Los Cóndores, with whom she performed at the Viña del Mar International Festival and He participated in the film “A Chilean is Spain”.

According to the aforementioned media, another of its interpretations that live in the collective imagination is La Consentida.

Infantas is the voice behind the best-known version of this composition by Jaime Atria.

The author won the 1961 Viña Festival, which for the contest was performed by the group Los Guainas.

When this last group dissolved in 1969, She returned to acting and participated in the production La pérgola de las flores in 1970, where she played Carmela.

In subsequent years he continued his career in the theater until, finally, he retired from the artistic circuit.

Awards and honours

In 2008, Silvia was named Fundamental Figure of Chilean Music by the Chilean Copyright Society (SCD).

This, as detailed by the SCD, for its “indelible mark that it left on local culture, and a contribution to our traditions that helped continue its development, beyond just dissemination.”

Subsequently, in 2015 she was awarded the President of the Republic National Music Award in the Folkloric Music category.

Finally, the artist is being laid to rest at the Manantial Cemetery, located at Agricultores 60, Maipú.

His funeral will be held this Friday, June 21 at 1:30 p.m., at the crematorium in the same place.
