The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported that the November 20, 2023two Mexican citizens with the crew of the cargo ship “Galaxy Leader” were held by a group of suspected Houthi rebels in the Red Seanear the coast of Yemen. The ship, dedicated to transporting vehicles, faced collision while sailing in a critical area due to the geopolitical tensions of the Middle East.

The incident occurred when the “Galaxy Leader” made a stopover at the port of Hodeidah, a strategic point located in the north of Yemen. This area has frequently been associated with the armed conflict engulfing the region, including protests against the war between Israel and Palestine.
