Cuban delegation present in Washington with sports agenda

The delegation made up of, among others, Yoselín Ramiro Ruiz, director of training and improvement, and Claudia Ferrero, international relations specialist of the organization, have taken part in the XXX Assembly of the Ibero-American Sports Council (CID) and in the meeting of the Central American Council and of the Caribbean (Concecade).

Also present are representatives of the International Olympic Committee, the Spanish Professional Football League, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (Unaoc) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), among others. international entities.

Among the topics discussed, those related to the Unesco-CID cooperation program and the presentation of the project Plan for Ibero-American Indicators in Sustainable Development stood out, in addition to sharing a proposal for intervention in the fight against violence, racism and xenophobia in the sport.

Progress in the implementation of the IOC’s 365 strategy found space on the agenda in the context of cooperation with the Ibero-American Council, the Prometeo project of the Real Madrid Foundation and the Ibero-American Women and Sports Network.

It also emerged that Colombia was chosen by unanimous decision to organize the 2025 Central American and Caribbean School Games.

In the absence of Venezuela, one of the countries that aspire to the presidency of Concecade, it was proposed to hold an extraordinary assembly within two months, during which time Panama will remain as leader of the council.

The South American country today issued a note of protest against the denial of its participation by the United States Department of State.

The Cuban delegation denounced during the debates the mistreatment received at the event headquarters, as the organizers failed to comply with the statutes established for all attending organizations.

Without guaranteed lodging or transportation, the Cubans described the incident as discriminatory and considered a crude attempt to isolate the island from these meetings, whose primary objective is to consolidate ties between the countries that allow sports to be strengthened in the region.
