Through a letter, the Sandinista Executive wished Ramaphosa and all South African brothers the best in this new period of government and, above all, more success in the struggles for peace and justice.

The text, signed by President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, also wished for more progress against poverty “that the imperialists, colonialists and slave owners who oppressed our people have inherited from us.”

“From our people to your people, and from our Government and from each one of us to you (Cyril Ramaphosa), all the appreciation and consideration you deserve,” he concluded.

This Friday, South Africa’s newly appointed parliamentarians re-elected Cyril Ramaphosa, leader of the nation’s main party, the African National Congress (ANC), as president.

According to media reports, Ramaphosa’s selection as president was the result of an agreement to form a Government of National Unity reached between the ANC, which won 159 of the 400 seats in the National Assembly in the recent general elections, and the conservative DA, which occupies 59 seats.
