According to the third reading of the data published by Eurostat, this data contrasts with the 0.1 percent contraction recorded in the last four months of 2023 and the stagnation observed from July to September of the same year.

The text specifies that this expansion made it possible to equate the quarterly growth rate with that of the United States for the first time since mid-2022.

In the opinion of Eurostat, the United States recorded 0.3 percent in the first quarter, which represents a marked slowdown in economic activity compared to the last period of 2024, when it reached 0.8, a figure also lower than that registered between July and September of the same year when growth was 1.2 percent.

In the European Union as a whole, as in the Eurozone, GDP expansion in the first quarter was 0.3, after the stagnation observed between October and December 2023, Eurostat notes.

The Office details that Malta leads the pace of expansion in the first quarter of 2024 with (1.3), followed by Cyprus (1.2) and Croatia (1.0) percent; while GDP contractions were in Denmark (1.8) and Estonia (0.5).
