It is called JAC T9 and it is a Chinese model that wants to stand up to the titans of the segment: The Ford Ranger and the Toyota Hilux. Let’s analyze what it brings!

The objective of Chinese brands

In a quick view We have an all-terrain pick-up, turbodiesel, double cabin bodywork, bed up to 1.8m and a 10.4-inch screen accompanied by a luxurious-looking interior. It can load up to 1,000kg and tow up to 3,500kg.

Many Chinese brands have settled in Australia and JAC Motors could not be less. In addition to having sedans, trucks and vans, a truck model could not be missing. We think that the United States is the paradise of this vehicle concept, but in Australia, it is almost as much or more rooted in society. Will the T9 manage to stand up to the usual ones?

This all-terrain pickup is sold in places like South Africa, China and also arrives in Australia. Could we end up seeing it in Europe?

JAC T9 technical specifications

The Australian model is preparing to enter the market of the titans Ranger and Hilux. To be a bestseller, it has a 2.0 four-cylinder Turbodiesel engine that delivers 170hp at 3,600rpm. The engine torque of 410Nm is delivered between 1,500 and 2,500rpmsomething ideal for working efficiently towing up to 3,500kg or carrying its maximum capacity of 1 ton.

Power is delivered to the wheels through a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox associated with a connectable 4×4 traction system that has a reduction gear and rear differential lock.

It has a stringer chassis that has a 3,110mm wheelbase and measures 1.97m wide, 1.92m high and 5.33m long (the same as the Toyota Hilux and 4cm less than the Ranger). Ground clearance is 210mm, maximum fording depth is 800mm, approach angle is 27 degrees and departure angle is 23 degrees.

Interior, prices and future views

Inside we see a fairly premium appearance and loaded with technology for a work vehicle. (especially in the Haven version). The 10.4-inch screen is located vertically in the middle of the dashboard and has a 360-degree vision system. The instrument panel is 7-inch digital, we find physical buttons, wireless charging and heated leather seats.

There are two versions, the entry-level one called Oasis with a price of 42,660 Australian dollars, which is equivalent to about €26,000 at the current exchange rate. The most equipped is called Haven and costs $45,630, about €27,900.

JAC Motors has been selling this truck in China since 2020, although it received a major modernization in 2023. Likewise They plan to implement a 100% electric version with a 2-motor configuration to the Australian range. At a safety level it has 5 ANCAP stars and if the foray into Oceania produces good figures, we cannot rule out seeing it also land in Europe and Spain.

Very premium for a work vehicle, with little price difference between the entry version and the top of the range, as well as a future electric version. Will we end up seeing it in Europe and Spain?
