Metallica have been hacked: their X account begins to promote cryptocurrencies – Up to date

Metallica have reportedly been hacked by cryptocurrency scammersas indicated Loudwire.

A few hours ago, the band’s Twitter/X account began promoting Solana’s METAL coin.

The suspicious activity began on Metallica’s X account yesterday afternoon with a series of Tweets promoting “a new dynamic token on the Solana blockchain set to revolutionize the way you experience online events and shopping“. The messages claimed that this was a collaboration with Ticketmaster.

The posts also claimed that a firm called MoonPay was involved, but that firm’s president, Keith Grossman, warned people to be careful, saying: “MoonPay does NOT support METAL”.

The fans, however, have been alert and have realized, almost immediately, that it was all a scam. Already in 2022, when the launch of ’72 Seasons’ and the “M72” tour, the band became a trend on social networks, which many scammers took advantage of to try to get hold of people’s money.

At that time, several unofficial live streams and YouTube channels, as well as “Metallica Crypto” giveaways, were launched to mislead fans and potentially cause financial harm. The band was forced to release a statement warning fans not to fall for scams.
