The Maestranza closes its season with the Vienna Philharmonic

Under the direction of Lorenzo Viotti, the orchestra will visit the Sevillian theater to perform music by Rimsky-Kórsakov, Rachmaninov and Dvorák

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra return to Maestranza Theater to close its 2023-24 season. will do it next June 24 from the director’s hand Lorenzo Viottiand will perform scores of Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov and Dvorák.

The Maestranza closes its season with the Vienna Philharmonic in what will be the second concert of this group on the Sevillian stage. His first visit was in September 1992in a concert given on the occasion of Expo ’92 and directed by Claudio Abbado.

About the program

The concert will begin with Spanish whimopus 34 by Rimsky-Korsakov. The score, structured in five movements, includes nods to our music with its ‘Dawn’a ‘Gypsy scene and song’ or the ‘Asturian fandango’ final. The composer visited Spain as an officer in the Russian Navy.

The symphonic poem can be heard below The island of the deadopus 29 by Rachmaninov. This disturbing score from 1908 portrays the composer’s anguished personality, and is inspired by the painting of the same name by Arnold Böcklin.

The second part will star the Symphony no. 7opus 70 by Dvorák. After a period of five years away from symphonic composition, in 1885 the Czech began writing this work, which is considered one of his greatest musical achievements.

Lorenzo Viotti

Is chief conductor of the Dutch National Opera and the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra. Of French-Italian origin, she received the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ Award at the International Opera Awards in London in 2017.

He regularly performs concerts with European and American orchestras, and works a wide repertoire covering classical and contemporary music, as well as opera titles.
