The mayor of Santa Marta Carlos Pinedo Cuello today denounced the sabotage of the water and sewage services provided by the company Essmar to the city and called the attention of the public force to counter what he called ‘a campaign orchestrated by the widowers of power ‘that without any scruple they attack not against the Mayor, but against the community itself to which they are denying the provision of said services.’
But the most serious thing, said Mayor Pinedo Cuello in his statement to HOY DIARIO DEL MAGDALENA, is that the sabotage is being carried out by some Essmar employees who are duly identified and against whom we will file the respective criminal actions.’
Then he added: ‘The blockades and road closures, some of them are promoted by political activists with the clear intention of causing chaos in the city. It is not a protest, it is sabotage, criminal behavior by those people that has that political connotation. And we are also going to file complaints against these vandals,’ he said.
He then recognized that the community has the legitimate right to protest and in fact many people affected by the lack of water have done so and we have respected that right, dialoguing, agreeing, bringing tank trucks and seeking channels for dialogue with the company. But this is not the case with some blocks made today. That is now in the hands of the authorities in charge of ensuring public order,’ noted Mayor Pinedo Cuello.
