They lift a blockade on the Riíto bridge after commitments from the Riohacha Mayor’s Office

After an intense dialogue with the members of the community of the Villa Fátima neighborhood, the blockade that they had maintained since this morning on the Riíto bridge, on Avenida La Marina, better known as La Primera, was lifted.

Among the agreements agreed with the District Administration, are to continue the construction of the new overpass over the mouth of the Ranchería River and the delivery of the certification of the access points to the La Guajira Public Services Company (Esepgua) to finish the execution of the sewage project in the area.

One of the leaders of the protest and resident of Villa Fátima, Libardo Cerquera, stated that thanks to the community’s initiative to block the bridge, it was possible for the District Administration to grant Esepgua the certification of access points. to continue with the sewer work. “Mayor Genaro Redondo and his work team committed to giving him those requirements that the public company demands to continue with the project that brings development to the neighborhood.”

For her part, the manager of Esepgua, Andreína García Pinto, stated that the work has been paralyzed not due to inconveniences of the company, but due to lack of information on the part of the District Administration on important issues for access to the connection points of the sewer work.

“We are 70 percent complete, but it is necessary for the District to give us authorization for the connections to pass through the bridge, but it has been paralyzed and there has been no response,” explained the Esepgua manager.

The official announced that since the District committed to delivering the certification, they will immediately resume work.

“They had authorized us to cross the old bridge but we found out that it will be demolished, so we are not willing to make an investment so that it is lost when it is demolished, we want to deliver an operational project, because it is our commitment to the community ”García Pinto stressed.

The mayor of Riohacha, Genaro Redondo Choles, explained that these access points will be determined by Aqualia and the Infrastructure Secretariat, to establish where they will be passed, so that Esepgua can continue with the execution of the project.

Given these agreements, the community decided to give way to mobility across the bridge and restore vehicular traffic that had been interrupted since the early hours of this Friday.
