UAPA rejects harassment of PAE operators in Huila and Valle del Cauca

They ask the authorities for measures to guarantee security, so that the service is normalized.

The School Feeding Unit – Food to Learn (UApA), a key entity of the Ministry of National Education in Colombia, rejects the recent acts of violence and aggression directed towards operators of the School Feeding Program (PAE) in the departments of Huila and Valle del Cauca.

The situation, which has reached worrying levels, is not limited to only threats and extortion, but has also involved the theft of food supplies essential for the operation of the program, intended to guarantee adequate nutrition for the students.

“We strongly condemn any act of intimidation, extortion, threats and/or physical harm that may hinder the normal operation of the School Feeding Program” said Luis Fernando Correa Serna, director of the School Feeding Unit – Foods to Learn.

The temporary suspension of the PAE in the municipality of Algeciras (Huila) has generated special alarm. This fact, attributed to public order problems, has left thousands of students without their only source of adequate food during the school day.

The Certified Territorial Entity (CET) of Huila was forced to take this measure in six educational institutions in Algeciras due to the reported security problems. This action affects 3,208 students and 77 women who work as food handlers, which underlines the seriousness of the impact of violence on the school community.

The UAPA urges regional authorities to take urgent measures to ensure a safe environment for the right to education and the continuity of the School Feeding Programme. In addition, it calls on the community in general to reject any action that goes against the law and that hinders students’ access to adequate food during their school day.
