Electronic visas to Cuba starting this Monday: What does this mean?

Starting next Monday, May 6, Cuba will implement an electronic visa system for tourists from its main destinations, such as Canada or Russia, something that was confirmed by the highest authorities of this sector in the country this week. But what does this mean? What are the facilities?

The implementation of the new electronic visa system will be staggered and, as detailed previously, will begin with the countries that send the most tourists to the island, such as Canada, Russia, the United States, Spain, Germany and Mexico. These were, at least, the ones who contributed the most last year. The implementation will last until June 30.

Thus, the current tourist card system will be replaced by this new electronic modality, as announced to official media by the Minister of Tourism of Cuba, Juan Carlos García Granda. This initiative seeks to facilitate the flow of visitors to the island and the ease of accessing a visa.

From May 6 to June 30, this new platform, called Evisa, will be implemented, which will be in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and Foreigners. Both tour operators and tourists will be able to make their requests easily through the Internet, from any device connected to the Internet.

Electronic visas to Cuba in May 2024

Well yes, starting this May 6, Cuba will take a step towards consular modernization with the implementation of Evisa, an online platform for the management of electronic tourist visas. This new system will offer a more efficient and agile service to users who request their visa through Cuban consular offices abroad.

We warn that this change has no direct implication for Cubans residing abroad, only for tourists who need a visa to enter the island.

This platform, Evisa, eliminates the need for in-person procedures and additional physical documents, simplifying the visa application and management process.

Applicants will be able to start their process virtually from any device connected to the Internet, completing an online form and attaching the required documents.
