The Cuesta del Portezuelo stands out for its natural beauty and its panoramic landscapes. This trail is perfect for hiking and taking in stunning views.
The route crosses the renowned Sierra del Ancasti, a typical Catamarca mountain range that provides amazing landscapes. With 300 tight curvesthis winding path was built in 1939 and has become a tourist attraction highlight of the area.
The altitude of the Cuesta del Portezuelo ranges from about 500 meters above sea level in the vicinity of the town of El Portezuelo, to its highest peak at 1,680 meters high.
The natural beauty of the Cuesta del Portezuelo even inspired musical compositions.
In mountainous areas, tourists can participate in activities such as hang gliding and paragliding, taking advantage of thermal currents and stunning panoramic views.
The extraordinary natural beauty of Portezuelo slope even inspired creation of musical works, like zamba “Landscape of Catamarca” from the local musician Polo Gimenez. In honor of this inspiration, a monument was built on top of this iconic site.
The altitude of the Cuesta del Portezuelo varies from approximately 500 to 1,680 meters high.
Where is Cuesta del Portezuelo
The Cuesta del Portezuelo is located in the region of Catamarca, northern Argentina. Specifically, it is located about 18 kilometers from the provincial capital, San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca.
This amazing path is part of the Connection between National Route 38 and Provincial Route 42, in the Sierra del Ancasti area, a typical mountain range of Catamarca.
