The outgoing director of Aqueduct and Sewer in Ciego de Ávila, Luis A. Castellano Cabrera, issued several letters in which he responded to complaints raised in 2023 and this year. Of Obstacles and stench (October 14) says that “it is necessary to dig into Marcial Gómez Street to unclog the main manhole, full of rubble, which, when the slabs of Martí Park were melted, were dumped; A permit must be requested from Physical Planning by our management to cut the street and proceed with this larger action to solve the problem.” TO Repair and improvement (December 9) responds that “we will try to find a solution as materials are provided in the new year.” Of Clogging and pollution (January 21), states that “the entire sanitary pipe must be replaced, since those installed are not enough. “It was explained to them that the replacement and the necessary materials will be evaluated to include it in the maintenance plan for 2025.” Lastly, about Concern of several (February 24) explains that “the residents (of Eladia Street between Onelio Hernández and Martí) were visited again, and it was explained to them that the solution is temporary.” (MORGADO)

Captain Manuel Hernández Rojas, resident at G, No. 377, between Sexta and Séptima, in the Rivas Fraga neighborhood, municipality of Ciego de Ávila, comes to this section concerned because he observes, on the city boulevard, how certain people — In their opinion, wanderers, by the way they look, they hang out in doorways to sell products or ask for “something” while carrying religious images. He wonders if there isn’t an institution where better living conditions can be offered to those people who are obviously in need. (MAYRA)

Apparently, it has become a practice in the main city to light the garbage that accumulates in various corners, without thinking about the consequences; as happened the previous week on Honorato del Castillo street, corner of Benavides. The flames expanded and the presence of firefighters was required. It is essential to find a sustainable solution to waste collection, to avoid greater evils. (MPM)
