JEP exhumes two bodies of people who disappeared 30 years ago in San José de Apartadó

The Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) exhumed two bodies of people who disappeared 30 years ago in the context of the armed conflict. The judicial proceedings, carried out in the villages of El Gas and La Linda in San José de Apartadó, Antioquia, represent a fundamental step to clarify the crimes of the past and provide a little peace to the families of the victims.

The two remains are of men who disappeared 30 years ago.

The hard work carried out by the forensic experts and the JEP team involved long days of walking, mule transfers and crossings through the Abibe Mountains. The first exhumation took place in the El Gas village on April 30, followed by another on May 1 in the La Linda village.

The exhumed bodies correspond to two men, one of them identified as a farmer murdered in 1998, and the other whose identity is still unknown. The information provided by relatives and former FARC-EP combatants was essential to locate the clandestine graves where the remains were found.

The search efforts do not stop. The JEP team identified four areas in the villages of La Cristalina, La Linda and El Salto where five other victims of forced disappearance could be found. It is expected that in the coming days new judicial proceedings will be carried out to recover the bodies and determine the identity of the missing.
