The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received the general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, in a dialogue to strengthen health cooperation between both countries.

Robledo, led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, ratified his government’s interest in hire more Cuban health personnel to reinforce the federalized health system, available in 23 Mexican states through the IMSS-Bienestar program.

The meeting, held at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana, continued the exchange that took place last April at the headquarters of that decentralized public body, in the Mexican capital.

The general director of Social Security then presented the proposal for a government agreement to expand to 1,200 doctors on the island in IMSS-Wellbeing medical units located in remote and difficult-to-access areas.

For the moment, Cuba has already sent 768 doctors to the Central American nation, and They are expected to travel soon another 123 Family Medicine graduates, as well as specialists to increase productivity in consultations and the operating room.
