The new Etecsa recharge costs $20 in Cuba: is it worth it?

The Cuban Telecommunications Company, Etecsa, launched a new international recharge offer for a price of around $20.

Like previous promotions, customers in Cuba will be able to benefit if they receive recharges from abroad, through the company’s partners.

This time, offer five times the amount recharged to the main balance, for amounts between 500 and 1250 CUP. Likewise, those who have a current international offer will earn a 25 GB bonus, valid for one month.

But, let’s remember. Etecsa does not apply the current official exchange rate (1 USDx120 CUP) established by the government in its promotions.

The state company alleges that the international recharge is not carried out according to the new exchange market applied in Cuba, since “the exchange market does not modify the price of ETECSA’s products and services.”

Criticisms of the company: Are ETECSA’s offers fair to customers?

“They don’t realize that this is a scam, the recharge says starting at 500 CUP, but from the outside it is still worth 20 or 23 USD when the official dollar exchange rate is 120 by the Cuban state, I don’t understand how people never “It has started to be calculated,” a Cuban protested on the company’s official profile.

Even with the collapse of the dollar in the informal market (1 USD = 290 CUP), Cubans they prefer to receive remittances and buy Internet packages in national currency, as they are needed.

As if that were not enough, the majority of Etecsa clients agree that the navigation bonuses that the company “gives away” are disappearing. Therefore, they usually reject promotions focused on these bonuses and that do not multiply the balance in a more “juicy” way.

“Repeat the previous one with 12x balance and unlimited internet from 12 to 7 am. This is very poor,” they complained to Etecsa. “They should think about doing a promo in which they give a solar panel as a bonus, it would be more profitable,” said someone else.
