The initiative will be carried out in the areas determined by the National Park, with Sierra Grande as one of the main beneficiaries. In that sense, the Municipality of the Atlantic town will be involved in the project.

“The proposal focuses on the cultivation of mussels, a significant first step so that these fishermen can, in the future, develop their own projects independently within this area,” said Juan Martin Llorens, director of Aquaculture.

This project marks a milestone as it is the first effort in the region in the field of mariculture. The Note House will be used, a resource that the province acquired over the years and that will now be implemented to enhance local development.

Mariculture in Sierra Grande will not only promote sustainable production, but will also strengthen the local economy, providing new opportunities and resources to artisanal fishermen.

This mother project establishes a model that will allow these practices to be replicated and expanded, diversifying and innovating in the region’s fishing activity.

As for the methodology, progress has already been made in the administrative aspect, to later carry out field work evaluating the possibilities in place together with technicians.

The mayor of Sierra Grande, Roxana Fernandez, was present in the different instances; the biologist from the CIMAS institute, Miriam Elvira; the Secretary of Planning, Innovation and Development, Gaspar seguiro; the Undersecretary of Production, Romina Roxana Sánchez and the director of Coordination, Control and Inspection, Ignacia Sica.
