The name of Pipe Córdoba does not mean anything to the new generations who are far from the compromises for the rigged elections of the high officials of traditional politics.
Much less those who dedicate themselves to the day-to-day search for their livelihood who remain far from national events, because they consider politics a deception for their needs.
However, a large sector of citizens who are concerned about the actions of the State and the future of the country, observe the irregular manner in which the selection for the appointment of the Attorney General of the Nation, in charge of monitoring the conduct of public officials in the exercise of their positions.
There is a sensitive concern among Colombians in the possible election of Mr. Felipe Córdoba for the position of Attorney General, who does not have the requirements for that position, as has been demonstrated by some lawyers, congressmen and journalists who have analyzed the resume of the candidate for the position of Attorney General.
Mr. Felipe Córdoba is known not for the lack of results in the aberrant cases of corruption that have led to economic ruin for the State, when he was Comptroller General of the Republic, but for his ability to move in Congress to which responsibility corresponds. election of Attorney.
Otherwise it would not have been possible for him to have been elected Comptroller General of the Republic, with the help perhaps of his father-in-law, Mr. Omar Yepes Álzate, an old former conservative congressman from Caldas who spent 32 years in the Congress of the Republic and former president. of the National Conservative Directory.
Felipe Córdoba, or Pipe as his friends call him, does not meet the requirements to be Attorney General of the Nation and aspires to have article 4 of Law 2119 of 2021 applied to him, which added a paragraph to article 20 of Law 2039. of 2020, which establishes that those who have a double undergraduate degree will be able to validate the experience of such professions as long as they are from the same area of knowledge.
The National Constitution, which is a higher standard, establishes that to hold the position of Attorney General, among other requirements are: Having held positions in the Judicial Branch or in the Public Ministry, or having practiced the profession of lawyer or university professorship in disciplines. legal for fifteen years.
Have the same qualities required to be a Magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice, Constitutional Court or Council of State.
The Córdoba candidate does not meet these requirements because he has not practiced the legal profession for 15 years and aspires to have some studies approved to perform that position in application of article 2 of Law Law 2039 of 2020, but the restrictive conditions established in The National Constitution does not allow them to be equated for other qualities.
There is an additional reason which is that to be elected Attorney General, in addition to the requirements of professional experience, the candidate must have the qualities required of the magistrates of the Constitutional Court.
In his functions, the Attorney General must present concepts in constitutionality claims before the Constitutional Court, that is, he does so before magistrates who are also required to perform their positions that are specific requirements that are exhaustive and do not accept interpretation for homologation with other studies.
Accommodating the law to the interests of the people is a perverse custom that must be eliminated, because it delegitimizes the nation’s trust in its institutions.
Citizens expect that the high courts in charge of presenting shortlists to Congress for these control bodies do so in consultation with the high interests of the Republic.
The opposite would be to continue in the compromises that have done so much damage to the nation, which we hope will be eliminated because they are pernicious attitudes that threaten the legal order.
Only in this way can we achieve the desired change of justice and peace.
