A 20-year-old young man identified as José Rafael Meza Rivera, 20 years old, belonging to the Nasa indigenous people, was the victim of homicide in the town center of Río Negro, in the municipality of Íquira, in western Huila.
The political coordinator of the CRIHU, Leonardo Home, assured the Blu Radio media outlet that the murdered was the reservation guard and regretted the acts of violence against his community.
“From the Regional Indigenous Council, the 33 authorities and councils reject the vile murder of the young José Rafael, in the ancestral territory in Río Negro, Huila,” he assured.
“Today more than ever we call on the country, on the institutions of the State, to sit down and dialogue and to establish a ceasefire with the armed groups so that there is peace in the territories so that more lives of our young people do not continue to be claimed. indigenous people, peasants and marginalized sectors,” Home concluded.
The leader of the Regional Indigenous Council asked the National Government and members of human rights institutions to ensure the security of indigenous peoples in the territory, especially in Huila.
Cases of indigenous people dying have occurred throughout the country. An emergency call was made on the morning of this Sunday, June 9, by the Emberá community that has been living in the National Park in Bogotá for some time.
An ambulance is permanently located at the site to attend to any requirement, so the Emberá community brought a three-month-old baby to the paramedics, who apparently was in critical health.
Different actions were immediately initiated in response to the strange case. Firstly, the baby’s body was taken to Forensic Medicine, where the corresponding autopsy will be performed to find the cause of her death, currently unknown.
For their part, the minor’s parents were summoned to the Puente Aranda Prosecutor’s Office headquarters, where they will have to go to undergo an interview before a prosecutor regarding what happened.
