Five people – one woman and four men – all with criminal records were evicted from a vacant lot, on Covadonga Street, between Freddy Taberna and Arturo Prat Avenue, in the El Morro neighborhood, at the request of the Tarapacá Regional Presidential Delegation to the Ministry Public who, together with Carabineros and the Municipal Inspection, proceeded to recover the space within the framework of the Usurpation Law.

The eviction was carried out completely normally, with the support of the Presidential Delegation that coordinated with the owner of the land, with the Ministry of Social Development for the homeless people who lived in the place, and with the Municipality of Iquique to the removal of the rucos.

For the regional prosecutor of Tarapacá, Trinidad Steinert, “it is important for the Public Ministry and the Tarapacá Region that they know that we are going to give strong signals in this regard. We are not going to allow the taking of irregular lands by anyone in the different places of Tarapacá. “As soon as we have news of these seizures, we will act in coordination with the Carabineros of Chile or the Investigative Police just as we did today, evicting people in accordance with existing regulations.”

JOINT WORK

The regional presidential delegate of Tarapacá, Daniel Quinteros, highlighted that the eviction was carried out within the framework of the Usurpation Law, reporting that a few weeks ago “neighbors of this neighborhood contacted us, they gave us information regarding the occupation irregularity of this particular property, a situation that as a delegation we reported to the Public Ministry so that it could carry out the proceedings within the framework of the Usurpation Law and be able to take control of this particular site again. This eviction is an example that by working together we can achieve great challenges that improve security for our neighbors.”
