As explained to AIR Germán Nessierspokesperson for Aguas Santafesinas “The work has advanced. “Due to the placement of cable piles where the collapse occurred, traffic is in a position to be rehabilitated on the northern side of the Boulevard.”.

Nessier added that “in addition to the placement of cable piles, with extended work hours, the excavation is being completed to clean the conduit in that section” and specified that “once this task is completed, the second stage can be defined.” which is the rehabilitation of the section of the conduit.”

Bulevar became the epicenter of sinkholes and sinkholes in the city of Santa Fe. To avoid future incidents, Aguas Santafesinas SA works on the intervention of the maximal cloaca. Today the priority is the sinkhole on Calle 9 de Julio and Bulevar

The company estimates that the work on this sinking will take a period of three months. At the beginning of 2015 the protagonist was the Bulevar and Urquiza Socavón, in August of that same year a new depression was recorded in Rivadavia. Last year, the Club Atlético Unión registered a collapse on its sidewalk, the depression was “patched” until it reappeared at the end of 2023.

The emergence of the last sinkhole

On Wednesday, April 3, a new sinkhole arose on the artery and the intersection of Bulevar and 9 de Julio, on this occasion this depression forced the suspension of vehicular circulation in the area. In all cases, the sinkholes are recorded above the maximum sewer that crosses the entire Boulevard.

This Tuesday, starting at 0, vehicular traffic will be enabled on the north side (east-west direction) of Pellegrini Boulevard, in the city of Santa Fe.

Dario Boscaroldirector of Aguas Santafesinas SA (ASSA) visited the studios of AIR and in an interview with Luis Mino on the program Ahora Vengo and provided explanations about the causes that generate the sinkholes that are recorded above the maximum sewer and that repeatedly affect the lives of the people of Santa Fe.

Under the central bed of Pellegrini Boulevard and Gálvez Boulevard, there is the maximum sewer that receives liquids from the entire city. This pipe has a diameter of 1.70 meters and began to operate fully in the 1990s, diverting sewage waste to the east of the city.

From there, they travel through other pipes that flow into the Colastiné River, where they are dumped without any treatment. In all cases of sinking the situation is the same. Sewage pipes that break, soil that literally disappears washed away by liquids and subsidence of the surface, aggravated by the vibrations generated by the constant traffic of vehicles.

To this we must add that the sewers have a significant age: those in the center are 100 years old and the maximum sewer is 40 years old, the latter was built in reinforced concrete in sections that were assembled. This duct is prepared for external pressure, not internal pressure. An aspect that could be one of the reasons why the main sewer burst on 9 de Julio and Bulevar. Any breakage of a main, secondary or domestic sewer drags sediment, produces a sinkhole and collapses.

“Here a break implies a sinkhole like the one in Urquiza, while in Rosario it may be smaller,” he said regarding the characteristics of the terrain. “We try to give explanations, this does not justify people’s discomfort or the company’s need to solve these problems”listed the ASSA member.
