The San José Parks and Recreation Department will offer free meals to city children through the summer meal program.

Dylan Kuhlmann-Haley, spokesperson for the San José Parks and Recreation Department, explained that the program is worked together with the state of California, who reimburses them for the plates of food and snacks they give to the children.

Kuhlmann-Haley added that thanks to this this year they were able to expand the program and the goal is to distribute around 30,000 plates of food.

Yadira Hernández, mother of the family, explained that this summer she was happy to know that her daughter will be able to continue having access to these free foods.

“There you save a little money. Since at school there are two meals like breakfast and lunch, it is a great economic support for many families,” Yadira indicated.

Below, you can find the 9 locations with their hours and days of operation in which they will be distributing food.

The menu includes, for example, foods such as a burrito, broccoli and apple. In addition to chocolate milk, to give a balanced meal to children who often do not have access to these healthy foods.

“I try not to miss anything, but it’s always good if there are other options, if there is something they like it’s fine because you see that sometimes children don’t eat well and you can’t prepare everything at home” , expressed Prisciliano Domínguez, father of the family.

Prisciliano also invited other parents to take advantage of this program that continues with open enrollment.

The only requirement to opt for the benefit is that you enroll your children in the San José Camp or FIT Camp camps, in the 9 locations included, since all the children in these programs are the ones who receive these foods.

The program will continue for the next 9 to 10 weeks until children return to school.
