Quintela referred to the suspension of the signing of the agreement for public works

In an interview last night with national media, Governor Ricardo Quinteladenounced the critical economic situation facing his province due to the suspension of public works and the economic policies implemented at the national level.

“I was also summoned to sign an agreement where certain Public Works that are in the 2023 budget that are already advanced with national funds were enabled,” said Quintela. However, The signing of said agreement was suspended without clear explanations from the national authorities.

Jalil, from Catamarca, has already signed, Martín Llaryola from Córdoba confirmed to me that he will sign. “I hope that this suspension is not a measure against our province”he added.

Quintela regretted the consequences of this situation, highlighting that La Rioja has more than 7,500 construction workers who have lost their jobs due to the paralysis of public works. Furthermore, he noted that the execution of 1,750 homes (the vast majority with 50% completion, and some with 80%) are detained due to lack of resources, which seriously affects the population.

The situation worsens with the closure of three industries in the province, leaving 350 workers unemployed and 320 suspended. “It is an explosive cocktail,” emphasized the Governor, referring to the impact of national economic policies on the daily lives of Riojans.

Quintela harshly criticized the measures of the national government, pointing out that the increase in energy prices especially affects the most vulnerable sectors of society. In addition, he expressed concern about the lack of policies that promote economic growth and the well-being of the population.

“If these policies are not modified, we are heading towards an unviable country,” warned the provincial president. In this sense, he urged the national government to reflect on the consequences of its actions and to work together to reverse the situation.

Given the uncertainty and growing unrest in the province, Quintela called to avoid a “social shock with unpredictable results” and commit to a constructive dialogue that allows finding solutions to the problems facing La Rioja.
