Challenge Campaign Let’s Raise Chile Due to Rain Emergency
A strong frontal system has affected a large part of Chile for a few days. The phenomenon began in La Araucanía and is expected to reach the Coquimbo Region. With 7 regions declared as Catastrophe Zonethe heavy rainfall has left great havoc.
That way, Levantemos Chile Challenge reached critical areas to raise the needs of affected families through the front system. For this, launched the fundraising campaign “Today the emergency is floods”which seeks to deliver mud and debris removal kits, essential items (hygiene and cleanliness) and coat.
After declaring a disaster zone in the Biobío Region, and the emergency situation experienced by the regions of Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Metropolitana and O’Higgins, the deputy minister of the Interior, Manuel MonsalveI declare that “Obviously, it is a very intense meteorological event, which involves intense rainfall, wind and can also involve intense water falling in a very short period of time. And therefore, There is a risk of material damage, but there is also a risk to people’s lives.”.
Given this, the executive director of Desafío Levantemos Chile, Ignacio Serranoassured that “many people were left with what they had and lost everything. As in other emergencies, from the first minute we have been on the ground understanding the needs and what is most needed in the affected areas to continue delivering aid more efficiently. We call on all Chileans to support this cause, and to the families affected by this catastrophe.”.
