This Wednesday at Maipú 130, in the heart of Córdoba, the La Puerta Student Residence. The program began in 2018, during the administration of the former Trejense mayor, Rubén Foletto, who, to respond to the concerns of many students graduating from secondary school who were unable to continue their university education, rented the first University Residence for students of Obispo Trejo in Córdoba.
In 2019, with the change of government in the town, the new president Silbia Mansilladecided to continue the project and promote it, but with the Covid-19 pandemic, activities had to be suspended and the doors of the residence closed.
“These were very difficult times in which not only health issues but also the social and economic impacts that the pandemic had exacerbated had to be resolved,” recalls the president. In order to reopen the residence, it was essential to have the financial resources and it was at that moment that the possibility of working together with the Municipalities of La Puerta and Villa Fontana arose.
Thus, the Residence became regional, receiving students from the three towns whose mayors signed a collaboration agreement in August 2021. But due to the great demand, the hostel was too small and it was necessary to have another space so as not to limit the possibilities. to continue studying the young people of the three towns.
This is how it was decided that each town would have its own University Residence, the first being in Obispo Trejo, and the one in La Puerta having been inaugurated this Wednesday, leaving for next year the opening of the Villa Fontana Residence, an objective for which they will continue The three municipalities working together, constituting an unprecedented event where officials were able to prioritize education and their young people, leaving aside political differences.
The operation of the residences
The residences have coordination teams that accompany young people in coexistence. The children contribute a minimum financial sum to collaborate with the daily operation, while the rental of the properties, insurance and general expenses are the responsibility of the three municipalities.
