MOP completes protection works on Avenida Altamirano

  • Rains had caused slope collapses affecting vehicles. Monitoring and deployment is maintained throughout the region through a front-end system.

In addition to preparing to face emergencies, the Ministry of Public Works develops a series of prevention works to protect people and regional infrastructure.

In this way, coastal and river course protections are built, improvements to the rainwater network and work is carried out on slopes. In the Avenida Altamirano sector of Valparaíso, slope support work was carried out, which in 2023 caused damage to parked vehicles due to landslides during a bad weather front.

The MOP, through the Highway Department, invested more than 1,800 million pesos in slope support works, using bolts and anchor meshes.

The Minister of Public Works, Yanino Riquelme González, highlighted that the MOP’s preparation for emergency prevention is constant and projects such as Altamirano are part of this continuous work. He recalled that last year there was a landslide that affected parked vehicles.

MOP completes protection works on Avenida Altamirano“As a result of that, we made an investment, coordination with the Chilean Navy. Today we are finishing protection of the slope there. It is a high quality job and it will ensure that we have a much safer place here than it was. The slopes are quite steep, the slope is quite high and, therefore, above are Navy facilities and the work that we are finishing and that we are opening these days, will ensure a peaceful passage here,” explained the seremi.

The Seremi recalled that the MOP keeps its work teams deployed in the Valparaíso Region to respond to emergencies due to the bad weather front.

The regional director of MOP Roads, Daniel Díaz Miranda, explained that it is a project of more than 1,800 million pesos.

“The Highway Department carried out a slope support project to reinforce the slope that is close to Altamirano, and avoid the rockfall that has historically occurred on this route. This 1.8 billion project, which covers a large part of this sector, was a joint work that was done with the Navy, and also with the Municipality of Valparaíso,” he explained.

For the Altamirano Avenue slope, the reinforcement of its surface was defined based on the installation of adhered meshes of high-resistance steel wire, with anchor bolts and steel plates, which allowed stabilizing the surface of the slope to reduce the risks. of landslides that could affect people, vehicles and the connectivity of the sector.
