CÓRDOBA, June 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Among the events that have been taking place on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Declaration of the Mosque-Cathedral as a World Heritage Site, the Cathedral Chapter has decided to stage the sacramental car ‘La Siega’, by Lope de Vega.
Specifically, as reported by the chapter institution in a note, the Classical Theater Company of Córdoba-Producciones Teatro Par will be in charge of representing this sacramental car on June 21, in the Patio de los Naranjos of the Mosque-Cathedral , with free entry until capacity is reached.
The auto sacramental ‘The Harvest’, by Lope de Vega y Carpio, written in 1635, is a one-act play that represents the Parable of the Sower and the Tares. In it, the Lord of Heredad walks with his wife through his fields sown with good seeds where the enemy lurks to sow tares among the wheat. In this way, and as occurred in the 17th century, the auto sacramental becomes the axis of morality and aesthetics, having as its main function the exaltation of faith and the mystery of the Eucharist.
The Classical Theater Company of Córdoba-Producciones Teatro Par, was born in 2002 and is made up of professional actors, mostly from the Higher School of Dramatic Art of Córdoba, with extensive training and experience in the performing arts. In addition, it has the special collaboration for the sacramental autos of professionals from other disciplines, such as dancers and musicians.
One of its objectives is the work of the verse text and the recovery for the current public of the universal classical theater and the playwrights of the Spanish Golden Age, whose themes are still fully valid today.
