Cienfuegos, June 21 (RHC) Cuban Vice Prime Minister Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella accompanied by José Ángel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health, visited the General University Hospital Gustavo Aldereguía Lima (HGAL) and the Paquito González Cueto Pediatric Hospital, as part of the government visit of the Council of Ministers to this province.

At the HGAL University Hospital, which this year reached the 45th anniversary of its inauguration, both leaders were able to verify the million-dollar investment made in the Guard Corps, as well as in other spaces, among them: the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, the Care for Couples Assisted Reproduction and the Neonatology Service.

During his talk with directors of the main medical care enclave in Cienfuegos, Perdomo Di-Lella called to look at the unfavorable behavior of some indicators of the Maternal and Child Care Program, since today the province exhibits an infant mortality rate of 10, 7 per thousand live births, even when it is expected that this year the territory will register, for the first time, less than 2 thousand births.

In this regard, he advocated for intersectorality with nutritional health programs that benefit pregnant women and children with low birth weight, all by improving primary care services.

At HGAL, Perdomo Di-Lella also learned details about the performance of surgical activity, with negative balances in minimal access surgery, hip fracture surgery and ophthalmology, the latter with a waiting list that exceeds 2 thousand patients. .

During his tour of the Cienfuegos Family Hospital, the Cuban leader praised the results of the Assisted Reproduction Couple Care Center, which exhibits 97 percent effectiveness, although they have not performed in vitro fertilization procedures for three years. .

The Cuban vice prime minister continued his itinerary at the “Paquito González Cueto”, where children and adolescents are cared for. There he transcended the scientific work of this institution, the only one of its kind in the country that holds the status of a Technological Development and Innovation Unit.

The journey culminated in the Octavio García Hernández Pedagogical School, where the Cuban vice prime minister, together with Naima Ariatne Trujillo Barreto, head of Education in Cuba, was interested in the care of pregnant students, the promotion of artistic potential and the development of talents.

Perdomo Di-Lella’s agenda also included a visit to the Cycling Technical Center, located near the Rancho Luna beach, where he arrived with Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder), to evaluate the remodeling of this place, in order to guarantee a better stay for the athletes there.
