The Ministry of Labor confirmed that three investigative actions were activated ex officio for the death, due to the attack of a jaguar, by biologist Carlos Eduardo Castrillo in a biopark in Santa Cruz.

The company has 30 days to present, before the Santa Cruz Departmental Labor Headquarters, the discharge documentation.

Miguel Justiniano, head of the Santa Cruz Department of Labor, reported that will verify a work accident followed by death; a labor inspection and a technical inspection, after the death of a biopark employee due to the attack of a jaguar, which escaped from its cage.

“The resulting report will determine if the death was the result of a work accident. If so, article 88 of the General Law will apply, which stipulates an immediate compensation of 24 salaries for the worker’s heirs, and Law 065 for the corresponding pension, because the incident occurred in the work unit,” explained Justiniano.

The work accident action seeks to verify, prove and reconstruct the situation that led to the death of the young worker. This is essential to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and ensure that justice is done, the authority considered.

As they explained, regarding labor inspection, The documentation related to the worker and held by the employer will be reviewed. This includes verification of social benefits, payment of severance payments, bonuses, overtime, among others.

While the technical inspection specialized in industrial safety will evaluate in detail the protocols and safety measures in the workplace.

“This unfortunate event highlights the importance of redoubling efforts in security measures.”, especially in high-risk jobs such as contact with wildlife. In the event that an omission or non-compliance on the part of the employer is confirmed, the relevant sanctions and the judicialization of the case will be carried out,” Justiniano highlighted.
