In Yopal there are more than 3 thousand cases of domestic violence, to date 129 cases are prioritized, of which 4 of the protagonists have already been arrested, as confirmed by the Secretary of Government of Yopal, Jorge Rodríguez.
The official said that the process is complex and can be delayed because the folders must be sent to INPEC and request the judge’s approval to take these people to the prison, indicating that these actions must continue next week with with a view to making effective the protection orders issued by police stations and family judges, thus safeguarding the integrity of the victims.
“Whoever attacks a woman goes to jail,” Rodríguez warned, pointing out the need to act forcefully against gender violence, however, he said that the authorities must face overcrowding in penitentiary centers, adding that they are working to create a family justice stamp to fund interdisciplinary teams that provide support to victims.
The captured
The Attorney General’s Office prosecuted Andrés Nuta Sanabria, Ervem Adrián Téllez Rojas, Elkin Yesid Cárdenas Higuera and Euder Antonio Jiménez Urueña, allegedly involved in crimes of domestic violence. All were detained in prisons.
The victims were apparently beaten and injured with sharp weapons, which left them with medical disabilities.
Nuta Sanabria, 19 years old, had been attacking his 47-year-old uncle. On one occasion the victim was injured in the head with a rock.
For their part, Téllez Rojas, Cárdenas Higuera and Jiménez Urueña were allegedly harassing their romantic partners. To do so, the suspects allegedly used social networks. The messages in each of the cases included death threats for the victims or their families.
In accordance with their alleged individual responsibilities, the defendants were charged with the crimes of domestic violence and aggravated domestic violence. None accepted the charges against them. The prison measures remained firm.
