The Ministry of Health and Social Policies of the Government of La Rioja, through the General Subdirectorate of Equality under the General Directorate of Social Services and Equality Institute, launches the awareness campaign ‘La Rioja, proudly diverse’ to commemorate the International Day of LGTBIQ+ Pride, which is celebrated this June 28.

The deputy director general of Equality, Begoña Marañón, accompanied by the president of GYLDA, Ruth García Pinar, has presented the details of this initiative that aims to raise awareness of emotional-sexual diversity in La Rioja.

“We intend to highlight that diversity is a hallmark of those of us who live in La Rioja, as well as hospitality, respect and generosity are qualities typical of all Riojans and we want to say loud and clear that La Rioja shines and is proudly diverse,” said Marañón.

For his part, García Pinar highlighted that for GYLDA, “this campaign not only celebrates the diversity that characterizes La Rioja, but also reaffirms the institutional commitment to the rights and dignity of all people regardless of their sexual orientation.” , their gender identity or their expression or family diversity. In that sense, he has stressed that “a clear and strong commitment on the part of the institutions in defense of these rights is crucial,” he said.

Respect for diversity, one more step towards Equality And to materialize this commitment within the framework of International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day, 1,000 posters will be distributed between Logroño and different municipalities in the region; rainbow laces and ribbons. In addition, information points, manned by GYLDA, will be installed in the Plazas de la Diversidad and the Mercado de Logroño on June 28 and 29, from 5 to 8 p.m.

However, to contribute to the dissemination of the diverse spirit, a participatory activity will be carried out among people walking down the street, which will consist of the construction of the flag with the LGTBIQ+ colors with 300 colored cards. Likewise, the LGTBIQ+ flag will be installed on the façade of the Government Palace of La Rioja and the headquarters of the Ministry of Health and Social Policies on Villamediana Street in Logroño will be illuminated with rainbow colors.

Marañón explained that this awareness campaign is aimed, fundamentally, at the adolescent and youth population, to avoid harassment and manifestations of hatred, sometimes of a criminal nature, which we must eradicate based on respect for difference. “The main purpose of this campaign is to convey to future generations of adults, minors, adolescents and young people today that respect for diversity is a fundamental element in the fight against inequalities and to end any type of harassment” .

It is necessary to promote and make visible the importance of the value of respect as a way of coexistence between people of different ethnic, cultural, gender, sexual orientation and ability origins, “which is why we must support, raise awareness and promote awareness-raising actions that promote diversity, equity and inclusion. Inclusion and respect for what is different are values ​​that promote equality that all of us in La Rioja can be proud of, because in our land no one feels like a stranger, that’s the way it is and that’s how we must transmit and teach it as part of the social feeling of La Rioja,” she concluded.
