There is hope 13 years later: Peter Jackson, the director of ‘The Lord of the Rings’, continues with one of Steven Spielberg’s best adventure films – Movie news

The last feature film Peter Jackson directed was ten years ago (‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’), but it seems that the next one will be one that has been anticipated for years

Director of one of the most beloved film franchises of all time, Peter Jackson began his career by winning the hearts of gore fans with Braindead: Your mother ate my dog and later gave us a series of fantasy blockbusters with king kong but, much more especially, with the trilogy of The Lord of the rings. However, since the release of the third film in the saga The Hobbit, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armiesin 2014, the New Zealander has dedicated himself exclusively to ambitious documentaries, such as the one dedicated to The Beatles Get Back in 2022 or the First World War with They won’t grow old in 2018.

However, it seems that there is hope for Peter Jackson to finally return to fiction cinema in the short-medium term future. While the teacher director of The Lord of the rings will only be on board the new film about Gollum as producer and will hand over the directing position to Andy Serkis, the Gollum actor has revealed what Peter Jackson is currently working on.

Speaking with Alexandre Loos within the framework of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, as the French journalist himself has revealed on his X account (formerly Twitter), Andy Serkis would have confirmed that Peter Jackson “is definitely working” on a sequel to The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicornthe adventure movie that Steven Spielberg directed in 2011 and in which the actor participated playing Captain Haddock.

Although Steven Spielberg was in charge of directing the film, Peter Jackson also worked on the 2011 film as a producer and plans were for him to direct the sequel. According to the original plan, the idea was that the filmmakers would switch roles: that Jackson, who served as a producer on the first film, would direct Tintin 2 and Spielberg will take a backseat as producer.

However, it has rained so much since then that it seems that the plans had been shelved indefinitely. With a collection of 374 million, The Adventures of Tintin was successful, but not enough to become one of the studio’s top priorities. Meanwhile, Jackson was recruited for the trilogy of The Hobbit and, although the plans were not officially canceled, the sequel was left in a drawer.

“Peter Jackson has to do the second part. Normally, if everything goes well, he should start working on the script soon,” Spielberg would say at the press conference for Ready Player One in 2018. However, six more years have had to pass for us to regain hope that there will be a second film. However, we will probably still have to wait a long time for The Adventures of Tintin 2 be a reality.
