The runner Daily Cooper once again improved her best mark in the 800-meter event this Sunday to win the athletics meeting held in the city of Troyes, France, where several Cubans participated.

The young woman covered the distance in 1:59.40 minutes, a record with which she broke the competition record (2:00.42), which had been held by the Ethiopian Tigist Girma since the last edition, reports the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

The mark was very close to the 1:50.30 minutes required to secure a place in the athletics competition at the Paris Olympic Games, which so far has the presence of nine Cuban representatives.

Cuban Rose Mary Almanza, one of those classified for Paris, also started in the Troyes race. This time she anchored in third place (2: 01.73) behind the Brazilian Flavia María de Lima (2: 00.92).

Almanza earned his ticket at the end of last May at the international athletics meeting in the French city of Forbach, where he stopped the clocks at 1:58.89 minutes, to surpass Cooper (1:59.93).

In the 400 meter race, Roxana Gómez, another with a secure place in Paris, won with a time of 50.69 seconds, which became the fastest among those achieved by her in the current season. That was enough for her to surpass the Dominican Anabelle Medina (52.65) and the French Camille Seri (52.72), her escorts on the podium.

Yoandys Lescay also starred in his best performance this season, covering the 400 meters in 45.48 seconds, thus escorting the Australian Reece Holder, who clocked 45.19 seconds as the best for the event. Argentine Elian Larregina came third with a time of 45.83 seconds.

To access the Olympic event by brand, Lescay needs a record of 45.00 seconds, otherwise he would continue depending on a possible place for the ranking world.

Completing the Cuban presence on French soil are sprinters Shainer Reginfo (10.28 seconds) and Yunisleidys de la Caridad García (11.54, her best time of the course), third and fourth place, respectively, in the 100 meter events for each sex.
