With the conclusion of the matches in Groups E and F, the first phase of the German Euro 2024 has been completed. The 16 teams that will compete in the round of 16 are now known, which will begin next Saturday, June 29.

Portugal, already classified as the leader of its group, played its third match without pressure and lost to Georgia 2-0. This result allowed Georgia to advance as third in the group and ensured Turkey’s classification in second position, leaving out the Czech Republic.

The final draw of this Euro Cup presents a peculiarity: several teams considered candidates, such as Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and Belgium, were on the same side of the draw, which guarantees that only one of them will reach the grand final.

On the other side of the draw, three powerhouses – Italy, the Netherlands and England – could face each other in either a hypothetical quarter-final or a possible semi-final.

The surprises of the group stage

Austria surprised by finishing first in Group D, beating teams like France, the Netherlands and Poland, and will face Turkey in the round of 16. Romania also scored by winning its zone over Belgium, and will face the Netherlands in the next phase.
